Iceh is a VRL race winner. In a chaotic Tier 2 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, he came through from P5 on the grid to win, 0.883s clear of his Audi teammate Freddie, for an Audi one-two.

From a sprint DNF to the top step

It didn't look like Iceh's weekend at first. He qualified P5, then retired from the sprint. But when it mattered, he delivered.

How the race unfolded

Freddie started from pole after taking both poles at Baku, and led early on a wet track. The weather didn't follow the forecast, though: it was only wet for the first 10 laps.

Freddie pitted just before the Safety Car came out. Trymed stopped under it for a much cheaper stop and took the lead. Then Iceh took the lead on track and held it to the flag, with Freddie recovering to P2 to complete the Audi one-two.

Midget was the big mover behind them, climbing from P13 to P3 for McLaren. Trymed held on for P4, ahead of Jake in P5.

The podium

  1. Iceh (Audi)
  2. Freddie (Audi), +0.883s
  3. Midget (McLaren), +2.759s

A long time coming

This was Iceh's 11th main race in VRL. His best finish before Baku was P5, at São Paulo in Season 3. Worth the wait.

What it means

The 25 points take Iceh up to P7 in Tier 2 on 31 points. Audi's one-two puts them P2 in the Tier 2 constructors on 85, behind Racing Bulls.

Earlier in the weekend, Jayson won the sprint in the Red Bull, ahead of Jake and Freddie.

Congratulations Iceh! 🏆
